We will pick you up from your hotel in Marrakech at around 8:00 in the morning. Then, we will drive south through the High Atlas Mountains, passing through the Tizi n'Tichka pass, the highest road in Morocco. Along the way, we will stop to enjoy the beautiful mountain views, visit traditional Berber villages, and have a coffee or tea at a local café with a view.
After the break, we will continue to Ouarzazate, known as the “Hollywood of Africa.” There, we will visit a famous film studio and explore the historic Taourirt Kasbah, a traditional fortified house. From Ouarzazate, we’ll drive through Skoura and the Valley of Roses (Mgouna), passing more Berber villages.
In the evening, we’ll arrive at Dades Valley, where we will spend the night in a hotel.
ACCOMMODATION:
Standard: Hotel Kasbah Didis or similar
Superior: Hotel Ksar Sultan or similar
On the second day, we will leave Dades Valley in the morning and drive to Todra Gorges, one of the most beautiful canyons in Morocco. You will have time to walk through the gorge and enjoy the sound of the river and the views around you.
After visiting Todra, we will continue our journey through amazing landscapes, passing many Berber villages and green oases on the way to the Merzouga Desert. We will pass through Erfoud, a small town known for its fossil workshops, and then through the Sahara oasis town of Rissani.
Depending on what time we arrive, you can either relax or start a camel ride straight into the sand dunes. The camel trek usually starts around 5:00–6:00 PM in summer and 3:00–4:00 PM in winter. After about one hour of riding, you will reach the desert camp.
At the camp, you will be welcomed with a glass of traditional mint tea while enjoying the view of the Sahara and the sunset. Later, dinner will be served in the camp’s restaurant tent. After dinner, enjoy Berber drum music by the campfire, played by local people.
Don’t forget to take a walk on the dunes and look up at the sky filled with millions of stars. Keep in mind that the campfire is usually only available during the colder months, and sandstorms are rare.
ACCOMMODATION:
Standard: Mouhou Standard Camp or similar
Superior: Mouhou Luxury Camp or similar
On the third day, we will wake you up early in the morning to climb the sand dunes and enjoy a beautiful sunrise. After that, you’ll have breakfast and a shower. Then, you will ride the camels back and meet your driver/guide to begin the trip to Ouarzazate.
On the way, we will stop in Rissani to visit its traditional market, which is the biggest in southern Morocco. Afterward, we will drive through the wide rocky desert, pass by several Berber villages, and see the amazing Draa Valley, known for its thousands of palm trees.
We expect to arrive in Ouarzazate around 5:00 PM, depending on the number of stops and the time we leave Merzouga.
ACCOMMODATION:
Standard: Hotel Riad Amlal or similar
Superior: Riad Dar Chamaa or similar
On the last day, we will leave Ouarzazate in the morning and drive west to Ait Ben Haddou, a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Many famous Hollywood movies were filmed here, like Gladiator, The Mummy, and Game of Thrones.
Ait Ben Haddou is also an important fortress on the old Salt Road and one of the best-preserved Kasbahs in Morocco. After visiting the Kasbah, we will return to Marrakech by the same road through the Atlas Mountains, arriving around 5:00 PM.
