Tour overview

This private 5-day desert tour to Fes is a wonderful way to experience the natural beauty, culture, and history of Morocco. The journey begins in Marrakech and ends in Fes, passing through the High Atlas Mountains, Berber villages, ancient kasbahs, and the vast Sahara Desert. Along the way, travelers enjoy a mix of landscapes and activities, with overnight stays in the Dades Valley, the desert, and the mountain town of Midelt.

The first part of the trip takes you through the winding roads of the High Atlas Mountains, offering incredible views and a chance to see traditional Berber life. One of the highlights of the day is visiting the famous Ksar of Ait Ben Haddou, a UNESCO World Heritage Site known for its beautiful mud-brick architecture and role in many films. The tour continues through the cinematic city of Ouarzazate, often called the “Hollywood of Africa,” and passes by lush oases and villages like Skoura and the Valley of Roses near Mgouna, before reaching the scenic Dades Valley for the first overnight stay.

On the second day, the journey heads south toward the golden dunes of the Sahara. Before arriving in the desert, there’s a stop at the spectacular Todra Gorges, a favorite place for hikers and nature lovers. After visiting the gorges and exploring the green palm groves nearby, travelers ride camels through the sand dunes to a desert camp. The night is spent under the stars, enjoying traditional food, music, and the peaceful silence of the desert.

The third day is a full day to discover the Sahara Desert and its hidden treasures. Guests will visit nomadic families who still live in the desert, explore old abandoned villages, and stop at fossil sites that reveal the ancient history of the region. This day offers a deep cultural experience and a chance to see a different side of Morocco, far from the busy cities.

As the tour continues on the fourth day, the route leaves the desert behind and travels through the long Ziz Valley and the town of Errachidia. The drive brings you to Midelt, a peaceful town located between the Middle and High Atlas Mountains. It’s the perfect place to rest before the final stretch to Fes.

On the last day, the road to Fes passes through scenic mountain areas. Highlights include a stop in Zaida, a small town known for its fresh mountain air, and the cedar forest near Azrou, where you might see monkeys in the wild. Before reaching Fes, the tour also passes through Ifrane, a town known for its clean streets, green spaces, and European-style houses — often called “Little Switzerland.”

For your comfort, this tour offers two accommodation options: standard and luxury. Whether you prefer a simple stay or a more luxurious experience, you can choose the option that fits your style and budget. This private 5-day desert tour is perfect for those who want to explore Morocco’s most famous landscapes and cultural highlights in a short but unforgettable journey.

Excellent!!

We had been looking forward to these 5-days, and we were not disappointed. The first night was at a guest house in Dades Gorge, which was fantastic. After we had dinner, the entire family came out to entertain us with drums and singing. We even had a chance to try our hand at it! The following day, we traveled to Merzouga and the desert. I can't say the one-hour camel ride was a pleasant experience. It was a little painful on the butt. The dunes were stunning in a manner that is difficult to put into words. All-in-all it was a great experience.

5-day Sahara adventure

My wife and I went on this 5-day Sahara adventure. The tour included pick up from Marrakech, night in a hotel in Dades, two in the desert camp, and the last one in Medilt. Mustapha was a friendly and knowledgeable driver/guide. It was a pleasure to have him during these five days. He made sure that the scheduled stops match what we desired, and his easygoing and calm drive made a long journey go quickly. I highly recommend Mustapha and this company.
