We will pick you up at around 8:00 AM and begin our day trip to Essaouira, one of the hidden gems on Morocco’s Atlantic coast.
On the way, we will stop at a local argan oil cooperative. Here, you’ll see how local women extract oil from argan nuts by hand. Argan oil is famous for its use in beauty products and traditional Moroccan cooking.
After the visit, we’ll continue driving to Essaouira. If we’re lucky, we might see nomads with goats climbing the argan trees — a unique and fun sight!
When we arrive in Essaouira, you can choose to explore the city with a local guide or walk around on your own. Unlike other Moroccan medinas, Essaouira is easy to explore on foot. You’ll quickly fall in love with its calm atmosphere and charming streets.
While walking through the city, you’ll see Portuguese fortifications, Bab Laalouj (the main gate), the Mellah (old Jewish quarter), the fishing port, and Kasbah La Scala — a fortress built in 1765 to protect the city.
After sightseeing, you can enjoy a delicious seafood lunch at one of the local restaurants with a sea view.
Once your visit is over, we will drive back to Marrakech using the same road. We expect to arrive around 6:00 PM.
Essaouira is known as the “Windy City of Africa,” and it gets windy mostly from April to September.
The strongest winds usually blow during the summer months—June, July, and August—when the coastal trade winds (called Alizé) are at their peak. These winds make Essaouira a top spot for kitesurfing and windsurfing, but they can feel quite strong for regular beachgoers.
If you prefer a calmer visit, October to March tends to be less windy, with milder breezes and fewer tourists.
Essaouira is in western Morocco, about 166 km from Marrakech. The drive takes around 3 hours, but it can be a bit shorter or longer depending on how many stops you make along the way.
This day trip starts at 8:00 a.m. We will pick you up from your hotel or riad in Marrakech.
Yes, there are other day trips similar to the Essaouira day trip. One popular option is a day trip to the Ouzoud Waterfalls, which is about a three-hour drive from Marrakech. There, you can enjoy beautiful waterfalls, stunning mountain views, and even see wild monkeys.
Another great alternative is a day trip to Ourika Valley, located closer to Marrakech. This trip takes you through the High Atlas Mountains, traditional Berber villages, and peaceful riverside spots, with the option to hike to nearby waterfalls. Both trips offer a nice mix of nature, culture, and relaxation like the Essaouira day tour.
