Join one of our 4×4 day trips from Merzouga to the secluded Safsaf Oasis, a tranquil and beautiful oasis in the desert. The adventure starts with an off-road drive north of the big Erg Chebbi dunes. On the way, we stop at Tissardmine Oasis, known for its fossils, and visit nomad families who live in tents. This is a great opportunity to experience their way of life and learn about desert traditions.
At Safsaf Oasis, you will find tall palm trees and, if there is enough water, small lakes where you can swim. You can walk around, enjoy the fresh air, and relax under the trees. We will prepare a picnic lunch in the shade and spend some quiet time in this special place.

We will pick you up from your hotel or camp in Merzouga and then start our adventure with a 4x4 off-road drive heading north of the big golden dunes of Erg Chebbi. The road is full of desert views – sand, rocky plateaus, and dry riverbeds.
Our first stop will be at Tissardmine Oasis, a small palm grove that is famous for its fossils. You can walk around and see the stones with ancient sea fossils that make this place special. It is a peaceful stop surrounded by palm trees in the desert.
On the way, we will stop to meet local nomad families who live in traditional tents in the desert. You will see how they live far from towns, take care of their animals, and prepare tea. This is a nice chance to learn about their culture and way of life. We then continue driving through off-road desert tracks until we arrive at Safsaf Oasis.
This is a hidden and very quiet oasis in the middle of nowhere. The oasis has tall palm trees and, if there is enough water, small natural lakes. It feels like a secret paradise far away from the cities and people. At the oasis, you will have time to walk under the palm trees, enjoy the silence, and take pictures. We will prepare a picnic lunch in the shade of the palm trees. You can relax and eat in this beautiful natural place.
NOTE: If the lakes have enough water, you may also swim in the fresh water, which is a very special experience in the Sahara Desert.
After lunch and some rest, you will have more time to explore the oasis, sit under the trees, or simply enjoy the calm atmosphere. In the late afternoon, we will drive back by 4x4 to Merzouga, arriving before sunset at the dunes.
The tour usually begins around 9:00 AM, but we can change the start time to fit your schedule.
