What you should know before renting a Buggy in Merzouga?

  1. When driving a buggy in the desert, safety should always come first. Always wear your seatbelt, helmet, and goggles, and make sure you have closed shoes for proper grip and protection. Sunglasses and a scarf are also very useful, as they help protect your face from sand and dust carried by the wind. Even if you are going for a short one-hour ride, these precautions will make your adventure safer and much more comfortable.
  2. If it’s your first time driving a buggy, it’s a good idea to start with a 1- or 2-hour ride. This gives you enough time to learn how the buggy handles and to feel more confident on sandy terrain. Once you are comfortable, you can join a half-day or full-day tour. Longer tours often include exciting stops, such as visiting nomad families, exploring hidden oases, or reaching panoramic viewpoints with breathtaking desert views.
  3. Driving a buggy is not difficult, but it does take focus and energy. The ride can be bumpy, especially when crossing uneven dunes, and steering in soft sand requires attention. You might feel tired after a few hours, so if you have back or neck problems, it’s better to choose a shorter ride for comfort.
  4. We offer flexible buggy options to suit your preference. You can drive your own buggy for a personal adventure or share one with a partner, friend, or family member. Riding double is a fun way to experience the desert together while still enjoying the thrill of the drive.
  5. Your local guide is there not only to lead the way but also to keep you safe. They know the desert tracks, the soft dunes, and the safest paths better than anyone else. Always follow their instructions about speed, direction, and where to stop. This will help you avoid accidents, prevent the buggy from getting stuck, and make sure you get the most out of your experience.

Tour itinerary

Merzouga - Erg Chebbi Dunes - Merzouga

Driving a buggy in Merzouga is an exciting way to see the Sahara. These strong and comfortable vehicles are perfect for crossing soft sand and climbing the big dunes of Erg Chebbi. Whether you want just a short ride or a full day of adventure, buggy tours give you the chance to enjoy speed, fun, and the silence of the desert. You can start right from the village of Merzouga or be picked up directly from your desert camp.

Short Buggy  Tours

If you only have a little time, a one- or two-hour tour is a good choice. The ride takes you straight onto the golden dunes, where you can feel the thrill of driving over rolling sand hills. Your guide will lead you to high spots where you can stop, take photos, and look out over the endless desert. Short rides are easy, safe, and perfect for families or anyone trying a buggy for the first time.

Half-Day Buggy Trips

A three- to four-hour buggy trip takes you further into the desert, away from the busy areas near the village. You will cross wide flat plains, hidden valleys, and less-visited dunes. Many tours also stop by nomadic families who still live in tents with their herds. Meeting them and sharing tea is a special moment that shows how life in the Sahara has been for generations.

Full-Day Desert Adventures

If you love adventure, choose a long tour of five to six hours. This journey takes you deep into the quiet parts of Erg Chebbi, where few visitors go. One of the highlights is reaching a small desert oasis with palm trees, where you can rest and enjoy a traditional lunch. Longer tours also give more time for extra fun like sandboarding down the tall dunes.

Safe and Guided Experiences

All buggy tours are led by experienced local guides who know the desert very well. They make sure you stay safe, follow the best tracks, and see the most beautiful places. No matter how long your tour is, driving a buggy in Merzouga is a mix of excitement, adventure, and the peaceful beauty of the Sahara.
