A camel trek in Merzouga is one of the best things to do in Morocco. Riding a camel across the Erg Chebbi dunes is a peaceful and beautiful experience. These dunes are the highest in Morocco and some of the tallest in North Africa. Their golden sand makes the desert look like a sea of waves.
During the trek, you can stop to take photos of the dunes, camels, and wide desert views. The sunset is the most special moment, when the sand changes colors from yellow to orange and red. It is the perfect time for pictures and memories.
At the desert camp, you will be welcomed with mint tea. You can walk on the dunes, enjoy the quiet, or try sliding down on a sandboard for fun. Spending the night in Erg Chebbi is magical — the silence, the music, and the starry sky make it an unforgettable desert adventure.
Camps | Price |

The camel trek in Merzouga starts around 16:00 during winter and around 18:00 during summer and hot months. We will meet at our office in Merzouga, where you will park your car, use the bathroom, get prepared for the tour. You will ride the camels across the Erg Chebbi dunes, the tallest and most famous dunes in Morocco. These golden dunes are some of the highest in North Africa, and their color changes beautifully during the day.
As you ride deeper into the desert, the guides will stop for photos and to let you enjoy the amazing views. One of the best moments is stopping on top of a dune to watch the sunset. The sand turns shades of orange and red as the sun goes down — a truly magical sight.
When you arrive at the desert camp, you will be welcomed with a glass of mint tea. After settling into your tent, you can walk on the dunes, relax, or try sandboarding. In the evening, a tasty Moroccan dinner will be served in the restaurant tent, with dishes like tagine and couscous.
After dinner, the camp comes alive with Berber music. The local guides will play drums around the campfire, and you can join them by drumming or dancing. At night, the sky is full of bright stars, perfect for stargazing and enjoying the quiet of the Sahara.
On the second day, you will wake up early to see the sunrise. Climb a nearby dune and watch as the first light of day shines over the golden sand. It is one of the most beautiful sights in the desert.
Afterwards, you will enjoy breakfast in the camp and take a shower before leaving. Then, you will ride the camels back through the dunes to Merzouga. The morning light gives the desert a different look, making the journey just as special as the evening before.
By the end of the trip, you will have lived an unforgettable Sahara experience — with camel rides, sunsets, music, and the peaceful beauty of the desert.
The camel trek from Merzouga to the camp takes around 1 hour. Along the way, the guides will stop so you can take pictures and enjoy the amazing desert views. You will also stop on a high dune to watch the sunset before arriving at the camp.
We have two options: standard camp or luxury camp.
It’s best to wear comfortable clothes and shoes. Bring a hat, sunglasses, sunscreen, and a small backpack with water. A camera or phone is also great for capturing beautiful moments.
The luxury camps offer private tents with comfortable beds, bathrooms, and showers. Standard camps are simpler, with shared bathrooms and basic facilities.
Yes, besides camel rides, we also organize ATV/quad bike tours, buggy adventures, and 4x4 off-road desert excursions to explore the desert. These tours can include visits to nomadic families, Berber villages, and hidden desert spots. If you prefer not to ride camels, you can go by 4x4 or quad and still spend the night in the camp.
