We will be heading to Merzouga on the first day of the tour, passing through Ifran, Azrou, Midelt, and several other Berber villages and towns. We will stop in Ifrane, known as Morocco's Switzerland, and in Azrou, which is very famous for its cedar forest, where we will have a short walk and see some Wild Monkeys. Our day continues to Midelt, known as the "Apple Capital," for its best apple quality. The next stop will be at the gorgeous Ziz Valley through the Tizi-Ntalghamt pass. We'll have a stop break to take pictures and enjoy a panoramic view of the Valley before continuing our journey to Merzouga, where we will spend the night in a hotel near the dunes.
Today, we are going on a 4WD off-road Sahara safari through the Erg Chebbi desert, and we'll visit several sights around the desert, including the Merzouga seasonal lake if it's full of water during your stay, where you'll be amazed by its stunning view of the golden dunes in the background and pink flamingos on a blue sky. After the lake, we will continue our journey to Khamlia, a small village known for its humble population originally from Mali, Sudan, and different African countries. We will have a short walk around the and, we may stop to have a mint tea while listening to their traditional music, known as Gnaoua. Continuing on our Sahara safari, we'll visit the mineral mines in M'fis, one of the oldest villages founded during the French colonial period. From there, we'll continue off-roading through the rocky black desert to one of the highest peaks, where you'll be able to see the Erg Chebbi dunes and possibly find some fossils. We'll be driving off-road and stopping to admire the desert scenery and mirages. We'll make our way to the last few nomad families of the desert, visiting their tents and discovering about their customs and daily routine, and possibly have lunch with them or in a local restaurant on our way back to Merzouga. After a lunch break, we will drive back to Merzouga and begin the camel tour on a one-hour ride across the dunes. You'll have a stop to enjoy the breathtaking sunset before check in to the camp, where you'll have a mint tea and then a delicious dinner followed by traditional Berber music. You'll have the opportunity to learn how to play drums.
Our guides will wake you up early in the morning to watch the sunrise and then start the day after your breakfast, shower, and the morning camel trek. We will begin our journey to Safsaf Oasis, enjoying the vast black desert's stunning views. We will be off-roading through acacias trees and a small oasis until we reach Safsaf Oasis. A quiet oasis with palm trees and small lakes, all connected by a stream. We'll take a walk, enjoy the silence, and have lunch under the shade of the trees. Before sunset, we'll leave Safsaf towards Tisserdmine, another small oasis closer to the dunes, where we'll stop for a visit before returning to Merzouga.
We'll leave Merzouga in the morning and drive to Rissani, where we'll get the chance to visit the bustling local market, which is the largest and closest market to the Sahara, and where nomad people buy their food and sell their goats and sheep. We will continue driving north to Erfoud, known for its fossil museums, before traveling to the Todra Canyons through Jorf, Tinjdad, Tenghir, and several other Berber villages. We will have a stop just before the Todra gorges to enjoy the panoramic of Tenghir Oasis, a vast oasis with palm trees and old villages in the background. Upon our arrival at Todra gorges, we'll have time to walk through its magnificent canyons before checking into the hotel.
Today, we will be returning to Fes from the Todra. We'll be traveling across the Middle Atlas's winding roads, taking in the lush valleys and breathtaking scenery, and we will make photo stops, take a break for lunch or a drink, and we'll arrive in Fes by the end of the day.
The tour price includes standard accommodations, with the option to upgrade to luxury hotels and a desert camp for an additional fee.
The temperature drops to 0° C at night and roughly 26° C during the day during the winter months (November to March). The summer lasts from June until mid-September, with temperatures ranging between 45° C during the day and 35° C at night, and the rest of the year, temperatures are relatively constant (between 24 and 30° C).
